My Apt is Haunted!

So, my roomate and myself have reason to believe our apartment is haunted. Yes, I know what you are thinking, but hear me out.

First off, our apartment is located in Georgetown and back in the early 1800s was known as Miss Lydia English’s Female Seminary, frequented by the likes of Martin Van Buren, James Buchanan, Daniel Webster and Henry Clay. During the Civil War it was converted into Seminary Hospital, used by the Union Army. And shortly there after, into an apartment building, as it stands today.

Fast forward to January 2006 when we moved in and note these strange incidents in our kitchen:

  • I had just bought a brand new can of spaghetti sauce, a few days later I goto open it, and it’s already open and like a tablespoon is missing. My roomate claims not to have had any. Maybe it was like this at the grocery store…
  • Everytime I go for my delicious cashew peanut butter, there seems to be less and less. Again, my roomate has not had any of this, and I’m almost quite certain I’m not eating it nearly that fast…
  • My bread seems to be disappearing super fast. Just last week I noticed I had only one slice left, and both of the end pieces were gone. I never eat those and my roomate didn’t have any of my bread…
  • And then last night, I’m making dinner and I check my Johanesburg cheese. Hmm, who opened this? Why are there weird cuttings on it? I also use a knife and cut it smooth, looks like someone took a grater to it. Funny, we don’t have a grater in our apartment. Not only that, but the bag is open, I always close it. Talk to my roomate, he said he didn’t even know I had cheese…
  • Me and my roomate get home late last night after a round of trivia the Tombs and we are in the kitchen talking about this food thing. He mentioned some of his food seemed to be disappearing too. Then we joke around that our place is haunted, when, the oven stove light pops on… yes, how did that happen? We both look at each other, a bit scared, I turn it off… you can be certain we left on all the lights in our place last night…

So what to make of this? Something funny is up. Even if you can explain the food disappearing, how do you explain the random stove light turning on? And we have an old stove too, you have to really click the button to get that light to go on and complete the circuit.

Interesting, huh? Indeed it. Stay tuned for more updates as we discover other strange incidents. And it’s only been 2 months…
